A special treat for ballet fans and those who want to become one: With the reissue of what is probably Tchaikovsky’s most popular ballet, Swan Lake, under the direction of Ernest Ansermet, an important repertoire work is available again as a new recording on disc in an excellent interpretation. The listener encounters the Russian’s first ballet work here on a double LP, not as a complete recording, but shortened by a few sensible cuts, but still not deprived of its most beautiful and expressive scenes.
